Paradise for families in the Alps: Loewebaer hotel review

Hello guys! I'm going to share a review of one hotel in which we stayed in June 2021. The name of the hotel is hotel Löwe .  Actually in Serfaus you can choose hotel Löwe , which means Lion and hotel Bär which means Bear. Child-friendly Löwe & Bär hotels are members of the “ Leading Family Hotels & Resorts ”  with an excellent standard which meet the strict criteria. Everything is adapted for kids, from children's play area to children's menu. Hotels are all inclusive, rich breakfast and lunch buffet, in the afternoon you can find snacks &  cakes, to the multi-course evening menu of your choice. If you want to find out more about hotel Löwe please keep reading.

Where is located and how to get there?

This four star family hotel is located in the heart of Serfaus, surrounded by Tyrolean Alps. We arrived there by car, from Maurach. It was a pleasant 2h ride till there. At around 1,427 meters above sea level, surroundings are spectacular, so peaceful and calming. One thing that you have to know if you are staying in this hotel, that vehicles are  prohibited within the area so you will park your car in the hotel garage and explore the area by foot, cable cars or bus. At the entrance of the village you get a card, which allows you to drive through village to the hotel only.

Indoor activities

From the first moment you can notice that this is a family hotel.
  • Reception is very big, lovely girls are there for you all the time, dressed in traditional Tyrolean clothes. Near is lobby and bar.
  • In the restaurant, which is specially designed for families you can find coloring books & markers, baby seats, cutlery, etc... Kids menu is very rich, baby/toddler food & food for older kids. Ice-creams, juices, fresh fruits. All kind of pastry, choices of food are simply amazing. Restaurant is typical Tyrolean interior, warm, homely wood. Baby area is 24/7 open and it has everything that you need for your baby. Breakfast, lunch & snacks are buffet. If you want coffee or some other soft/sparkle drinks you have to pay for it. Still worth it though, coffee is OK and if you choose to go in the garden you can enjoy in the beautiful view. Dinner is reserved for menu of your choice with salad and cheese buffet. Regional food is delivered fresh and directly to the hotel. Also if you have some allergies and food intolerances, the kitchen team will prepare for you a special menu.
  • The wellness area is reserved for adults. You can leave your kid in kids club and enjoy in spa/wellness center. They offer: Finnish sauna, steam bath, infrared cabin, herbal steam bath, organic clay sauna, splash shower and rock-ice grotto, panorama relaxation room with a view of the Tyrolean mountains. Also they offer manicure/pedicure, various massages, beauty treatments for the face, special treatments for men and children. Haslauer bath treatments - Freshly prepared care packs, peelings and wraps are applied in a floating lounger at a temperature of up to 39 degrees Celsius.
  • Sports enthusiasts have a separate fitness area, from indoor bikes to treadmills to leg press and cable cross, cardiovascular training, muscle building or strength training.
  • We stayed in Surprise suite 35m2, with living-sleeping room with sitting area, children's bedroom with bulk bed, bathroom with separate shower, toilet, flat screen TV, telephone, WiFi, safe, fridge, build in baby and child monitor. Its also included sleepers for adults, bathrobes for 2 adults & 2 children. Also small terrace.

Löwen children's world

My kids absolutely loved spending their time in kids club. 1,000 square meters of  play paradise for children, which is amazing!  Its open from the morning till 9pm, for kids of all age. My kids were thrilled, from trains, building block, car, kitchen, puzzles, coloring books to pc games, small billiard table, they tried everything. You also can find books, all sorts of crafty things, face paint, small baby strollers. Outside there is a big playground with sand. What I liked here that you can leave your kids for some time so you can go to relax, eat, take a walk outside. Kids club staff will take care of your kids. You just give the the name of the kids, room number and your phone number so they can call you if there is some emergency or kid is crying and want to leave. Our kids spent most of the time in soft play area and club. They weren't much interested in theater, which was in German so we didn't forced them to sit there. Also drinks are available all the time, in case the little ones are thirsty.

Indoor play area is also very interesting. The huge Lion ball pit, which I noticed a lot of children like and looks like getting balls out of the pit is most interesting. Be prepared for a lot of screaming, laughing, running around. What I liked here is that the playground is completely safe, protected by soft mates. It has a few slides, very big cage with a lot of obstacles like giant spider, they can crawl through the crawl tunnel and into the ball pit on the slide. Also soft cubes are available where kids can build towers. I like how they think on every detail, to make kids happy!

Clip'n Climb at Hotel Bär

Hotel Bär offers a lot of fun too! My kids tried this activity for the first time. At the beginning they weren't sure where we are going and start complain how its going to be boring, but after they tried clip'n-climb, 1 hour wasn't enough. We waited for the group to come at reception so kind & lovely staff from kids club can take us to the hotel Bär. Closed group of 10 kids plus their parents. It takes 7-10 mins by foot,  through the village to the Bär hotel. It was one hour activity where kids can try various climbing modules of different levels of difficulty. Before we start the team from kids club explained how to do it, how to be secure, where to stand etc. They repeated in English for us, since we don't know German. Kids were secured with a fully automatic safety system.  No previous knowledge is required and children from age four and over are allowed to climb.

Climbing modules that are available to try:

  • Big cheese
  • Dry Ice
  • Face to face
  • Hexed
  • Leap of fate
  • Red square
  • Skyscraper
  • Speed climb
  • Checkerplate
  • Aliens
The hardest are Dry Ice, because kids must place knifes in holes in the top of each hold, and Leap of fate. Both Marko & Mihajlo climbed at the top but it was a bit scary for them, since the rope starts pulling them, so they thought they are going to fall and decided to abort the mission.
This activity is not for free so if you want your kids to experience this, you will have to pay. But its worth it!

Water world

The Lion water park is simply amazing. The indoor pool is entirely under the motto of the children's book classic "The Lion King". Sadly that pool was very crowded so we decided not to go there.  Even thought we haven't stayed at the pool, kids enjoyed so much, and the main fun for the older son was the speed tire slide called "Magic Eye" . The 60 meter long tire slide was the best thing ever, if you ask my son :) You can choose single or double tire. The younger one was a bit scared but my older boy couldn't stop. I tried it once and its a but scary at some point, going fast and water splash on you,  so I understand why Mihajlo was scared. Next to the slide is very big aqua park called Pirate land, with slides, ten meter high water play tower and water toy stations. Main fun for Mihajlo was the big water bucket on pirates head. He liked the water pistols too.
Pirate land was less crowded than the pool but still it was a bit uncomfortable to take photos, so I waited for kids & parent to clear out. For little ones and toddles there is a pool 30 degrees water temperature. This pool is a bit away from Pirate world. Also we haven't tried the outdoor pool because Marko wanted only to go to tube slide and Mihajlo running around in Pirate land.  I must say that aqua park was definitely a highlight of the day.

There was a lot of activities for kids in water park such as:

  • Indoor and outdoor swimming pools
  • Speed tire slide
  • Baby paddling pools
  • Separate areas for relaxing

Outdoor activities in Serfaus

The village of Serfaus is ideally situated on a sunny plateau high above the Inntal Valley and a great starting point for hikes up to mountain peaks. In Serfaus itself the children uncover the secret of the Pirates' Trail. It takes around 2h to explore Pirates Trail. Murmliwasser is located close to the Komperdellbahn mid station. Real marmots roam around a large enclosure. In the marmot cave kids can observe and discover what these small animals feel like in their marmot caves. Sadly there was a lot of water around and Marko managed to wet his sneakers so we had to leave to the hotel. Breathtaking  landscapes, everything is just perfect! And of course bring a sun-cream as you can easily sunburn. The Hög adventure park in Serfaus has a lot of fun for kids such as the water maze, wooden ball track,  the cow patty trampoline, pedal boat etc. Everything at the Hög Adventure Park is related to alpine farming
and forestry. Summer tobogganing is also there, restaurant near by.  We spent a lot of time here resting and admiring the views.

More things to see or try here:

  • Rappenwand family climbing crag - with 19 different routes ranging from difficulty II to VII. The rock is small-rifled, and while the lower part is flat and suitable for families, the upper part is vertical and thus ideal for sport climbing. The altitude varies from 5 to 25m.
  • Almpromenade hiking trail
  • Murmliweg trail. We were planning to explore the trail but Marko was without snickers so it was  mission impossible.
  • Serfaus sauser - provides the ultimate thrill with a length of 2,000 meters and a speed of up to 65 kilometres per hour. With a distance to the ground of 85 meters, it offers a unique view of the wintry Tyrolean mountains.
  • Summer tobogganing  - Children between 3 and 7 years may only ride with an accompanying adult and are free of charge.
  • Baren  (bear) cache , this is for older kids, mine weren't interested at all.
  • Georama Lassida at 2350m above sea level will give you more insight to the world of geology and archeology for all explores and scientists. The giant excavation area made of sand, where various fossils are hidden. You will get a shovel and your mission is to find them. That's a true adventure!

Outdoor activates in Fiss

Our third day here was reserved for summer fun park. It is located  above the municipality of Fiss, this little village is known for its outdoor adventure activities, old traditions and family-friendly facilities. From the cable car station we walked till summer fun park. I have no words to describe this childrens paradise, because simply is that - paradise. A lot of different playgrounds, swings, tubing run which I definitely recommend! It cost 3 euros per kid, 30mins of pure joy. The only problem for Mihajlo was that the tire was too big so it was a bit heavy for him to bring it to the top. Meanwhile, kids are there enjoying you have a self service restaurant with a large sunny terrace. We ordered chicken nuggets for the  kids and coffee for us.  Also you can find trampolines, water play area, various toys etc. We stayed here for almost 2h then we decided its time to visit Fisser Joch at 2,436 metres above sea level.

With a cable car it took around 10mins to get to Fisser Joch. I was absolutely terrified as it was so high and I couldn't wait to get there!  Make sure to bring warmer clothes as it was only 10ºC, chilly and not that pleasant. Of course, here is also absolutely amazing. First the views, you can see & touch snow, surrounding mountains, fresh air. Then more fun for kids children's mine!

More things to see or try here:

  • Sommerrodelbahn (summer tobogganing) - of course kids wanted to try this but since we tried tobogganing in Serfaus we skipped it this time
  • The Fisser Flieger - Honestly I wouldnt dare to try this haha The design of the aircraft resembles a hang-glider , can accelerate quickly and sweep over the Möseralm at over 80 km / h . When we were climbing to our next cable station to explore te mountain top 2 people were trying this and wow it runs so fast!
  • Skyswing for those who like these kind of activities.
  • Jump tower with Giant Air Bag
  • Children's zoo which we totally missed
  • Various playgrounds

Honestly I have more videos than photos and cant wait to  find some time to edit & publish all from Serfaus & Fiss! I already started making videos and hopefully soon then will be on my youtube channel. As I think videos are more close to show the beauty of this region. Hope you enjoyed reading this blog post and make sure if you ever decide to got to Serfaus to stay to Löwe & Bär hotels!
