The ancient village of Lindos on Rhodes, Greece

The ancient village of Lindos on Rhodes, Greece

This beautiful village is located south of the capital. The medieval village itself is amazing, founded by the Dorians around 2000 BC. The village is totally pedestrianized and no vehicles are allowed on the paved streets of Lindos. Donkeys are the only way of transportation or by foot. You can walk through the village to the hill for the Acropolis. Streets are full of small shops, selling jewelry, clothes, souvenirs...

We rented a car and decided to explore this beautiful island. Seriously this village is worthwhile  stop during the visit to the island of Rhodes. I remember it was crowded with tourists, it was very hot , about 40C. I couldn't go through the village much , only took a few photos but hopefully next time will manage to stay more.

 Highlights of Lindos

 Lindos main beach

Located east of the Acropolis. Makes it great spot for family and children. It is very easy to reach, walk your way down from the main square of Lindos village. Long beach with golden sand and shallow water. From here you have a perfect view of Lindos village and Acropolis.

St. Paul's bay

The Acropolis of Lindos overlooking the bay of the St. Paul. With turquoise blue water, surrounded by rocks. Owes its name to the apostle Paul who stayed here in 57 AD during his journey to Ephesus. Ideal for snorkeling.

White washed houses

It is very picturesque. Almost all of the houses in Lindos are of historic interest. Artists, musicians, writers restored many of these houses in the 60's & 70's, all because they wanted to preserve the unique beauty of the architecture. Some of them are available for rent, some turned to summer homes.

This place is like a picture postcard village in Greece. Everything looks so nice, it is simply beautiful. it is also a small fishing village where you can enjoy a good fresh fish.

Acropolis of Lindos

Outside the Old City The Acropolis of Lindos towers above the village. It is one of the most important historical sites in Rhodes. It is located at the top and the south side offers spectacular view over the bay of St. Paul. I can't say much about Acropolis and I haven't seen it , only form distance.
